ALSA - Microphone Not Working

For some reason ALSA did not set my microphone to “capture” and so it took me a while to determine what the issue was.

alsamixer -
Choose your audio device by pressing F6

Change the view to “Capture” by pressing F4

You should now see a list of input ports such as “Front Mic”, “Line”, “Mic”, etc.

Select the port you want to capture and press space
