Soldier of Fortune II Dedicated Server on Debian 8

Soldier of Fortune II was one of my favorite games back in the day. It’s mostly dead now, but just in case I ever decide to run a server again this is how to get it running on Debian 8 64-bit. The good news is that it now costs almost nothing to run a server with the advent of cheap VPS’s. It used to cost $1/slot or more which is pretty absurd when anyone can run a server for “free”. I remember running a 10 or 12 slot server on my PC for free back in 2004. It was the coolest thing ever and the only reason I couldn’t host more was due to cable modem upload speeds being 100KB/s max. Good times.
- Install necessary 32-bit libraries.
apt-get install lib32z1 lib32ncurses5
- Run!
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ./sof2ded
I uploaded a few files I used on my own server back in 2004.
